Headteacher's welcome

Welcome to Ashmead Primary School, a two-form entry school in Deptford, Lewisham that I am proud to lead as Headteacher. I have been part of the Ashmead Primary School community for over 15 years, and it is a privilege to lead a school that I know so well and care about so deeply. I am proud to be part of the Ashmead family, working alongside a dedicated staff team, supportive families, and wonderful children.

Our vision for children is simple yet powerful: Through excellent teaching and care, children know they are both loveable and capable. This vision underpins everything we do as a school.

At Ashmead, we place high value on creativity, well-being, and the unique qualities each child brings, alongside strong academic achievement. This is reflected in our calm and focused classrooms, where children are deeply engaged in their learning, and in our outdoor areas and playground which is full of imaginative and active play. Children here feel happy, safe, and secure - free to be themselves and flourish.

Our calm and nurturing approach to behaviour is centred on building strong, positive relationships and supporting every child’s well-being.

We are also fortunate to have a committed and enthusiastic Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), who work tirelessly to support the school and ensure the best for all children at Ashmead, including fundraising for and commissioning a brand new climbing frame that was installed in summer 2025.

Whether you are a prospective, new, or current family, I look forward to working with you to ensure your child has the very best primary school experience at Ashmead.

Hot weather

As I'm sure you know the UKHSA have extended their red heat-health alert warning to 11pm on Friday so we have CANCELLED our PTA Fair on Friday as it will be too hot to safely do.

Our ongoing risk assessments for heat health in school remain in place and we continue to dynamically risk assess throughout each day to keep children and staff safe.

We are lucky to have air conditioning or mechanical ventilation in the majority of our classrooms and learning spaces and we will be using all of these spaces to keep children as cool and safe as possible. The offer for children in Reception and Year 1 (in non air conditioned classrooms) to go home at 1.15pm remains.

Please let the office know if you will be collecting your Reception/Year 1 child at 1.15pm.

Thanks for your ongoing support and understanding.

Stay cool!
